Before I met Amy and Steve, I had no idea there was a winery at Kingstown, near Urallla. But, after looking up Merilba Estate and visiting the winery for myself, I became very excited about photographing Amy and Steve’s wedding there.
Amy grew up in Armidale, so she got ready at her parents home, while Steve and the boys prepared for the big day at the Quality Hotel Powerhouse. Amy channelled 1920’s glamour on her wedding day with her high necked satin sheath dress featuring an amazing guipure lace back. She paired that with a vintage style headpiece and simple baby’s breath for her bouquets.
Her bridesmaids dresses were styled off the now-famous Jenny Packham design worn by Kate Middleton at her wedding with Prince William, in a navy colour.
Now, the function venue at Merilba Estate Wines is an amazing old renovated shed. The area marries country style with glamour with the amazing polished wooden floors, the copper corrugated feature wall, traditional tin roof and wooden columns.
The ceremony was held on the steps into the function venue, in front of the amazing huge white sliding wooden doors.
After the ceremony and family photos, we were able to use several areas of the winery grounds for bridal party photos. The owners of the Estate live on-site, and they were gracious enough to allow us to photograph around their house and on their lawn.
There are several meandering paths throughout the grounds, an amazing courtyard and fountain and a rotunda. I used most of these spots for the bridal party photographs and then took Steve and Amy up to the wine rows by themselves just on sunset. After dark, we also walked back down to the rotunda for a night-time shot using my portable studio flash.
I am also very pleased to announce that I’ll be seeing Amy and Steve in December to photograph their first baby! I love seeing my client’s families expand!
